The towns in "Callejón de Huaylas", outstands
because of their wealthy Andean folklore, with great variety
in music and dances. The great celebrations generally are associated
to the religious feasts. Most
of the celebrations and religious feasts, use to take in processions
by the streets images of the patron saints or virgins, covering
the streets with rugs made of petals of flowers.
Feast of "Virgen de Chiquinquirá"

Feast of "Virgen de la Candelaria"

The carnivals in all the towns of "Callejón de
Huaylas" are celebrated with lots of joy, color and feasts.
Feast of "Señor de
la Soledad"
During the first 15 days of May
Huaraz. Religious Feast, most important celebration, Patron
of the City. Folkloric shows, commercial, agricultural and
crafts fairs.
Feast of "Corpus Cristi"
First Sunday of June
Religious Feast, folkloric shows and crafts fairs. The most
important activity is the presentation of Dances in the Pallasca.
Mountaineering Week
June - varies (Workable day)
Celebrated in Huaraz. Contest and practice of adventure sports.
Mountaineering, hikes, mountain biking, rafting, deltaflying
and paragliding, snow sports. Rock concerts, artistic and
folkloric shows.
Visits to archaeological sites. Allegoric parades. These celebrations
congregate dozens of thousands tourists Peruvians and foreigners.
Feast of "Virgen de la Asunción"
(Virgin of Asunción)
August 15th
Religious Feast, exposition of typical dances, bull fights,
rooster fight and the traditional ribbon race.
Feast of "Señor de
Burgos" (Lord of Burgos)
September 11th to 15th (holiday)
Recuay. Religious feast of the Patron of the city. Folkloric
shows, outstanding the "colored people" dance.
Feast of Yungay
October 25th to 28th
Yungay. Patronal Feast, celebrating the anniversary of the
political creation of the city. Folkloric shows, crafts and
commercial fairs.
The ribbon race, is a ceremony that takes place in the fields.
Ribbons are tied to a tree having the names of all the single
girls in town, and have a little ring in its tip. The young
guys ride horses to try to pass a stick by the ring hole,
and take the ring out. The one who does this is supposed to
get the love of the girl.
